“I Want to Be Found on Google”: What Coaches Get Wrong About Visibility

“I Want to Be Found on Google”: What Coaches Get Wrong About Visibility

You’ve probably said it before — or heard another coach say it:

“I just want people to find me on Google.”

Sounds simple enough, right?

But here’s the problem…

Most coaches want to be found on Google without ever building the system that makes them searchable.

🧩 Being on Google Isn’t the Same as Being Visible

Simply having a website doesn’t mean people can find you.
Ranking for your business name alone isn’t visibility — that’s just a digital ID.

The truth is:
People don’t search for you.
They search for their problems.

They search for answers to questions they may have, the answers of which adds value to them:

  • “How do I get clarity in my career?”
  • “Relationship coach in Abuja”
  • “How to stop procrastinating and stay focused”
  • “What is the best Nigerian food for diabetics?”

If none of your platforms speak to those real search terms, your dream clients will scroll right past you — even if you’re the best person to help them.

🔍 What Real Visibility Looks Like for Coaches

To actually be found online, you need a system — not just a profile. This is what a visibility system that helps coaches be found on Google looks like:

Here’s what that system includes:

  • Content that matches what people are searching for
→ Blog posts, carousels, or videos answering real questions that people ask daily. Your blogposts should be written from the point of view of your ideal client.
  • Platform positioning
→ Consistent bios, keywords, and CTAs across Instagram, LinkedIn, and Google. Your bio should contain the keywords that your ideal client would search for, yet it should not be keyword stuffed. Don’t change your name to Best Dietian in Lagos. It’s generic and really means nothing.
  • A Google Business Profile
→ If you’re location-based, this helps you show up without running ads. Remember, having an updated and optimised Google profile is more important than having Instagram account.
  • Clear offers with calls to action
→ Not “DM for info,” but “Book a free session” or “Request a visibility audit”. People do what you ask them to do, so be clear about what you want them to do.

📉 Why Hope Isn’t a Visibility Strategy

Here’s what usually happens:

  • You post a few times a month
  • You “boost” something when you feel like it
  • You use vague terms like “I help you gain clarity”
  • And then… silence

You’re technically online — but no one really knows what you do, who you help, or how to reach you.

That’s how good coaches stay invisible.

✅ How to Fix It

If you’re ready to move from scattered to strategic, here’s what to do so you are found on Google:

  1. Pick one key problem you solve
→ e.g. “I help mid-career professionals switch paths without starting over”. This shgould be a problem you fully understand and can speak about.
  2. Create content around that problem
→ Blog post, carousel, talking-head reel, etc. Write down everything you know about the problem, read it and then break it down into segments of actionable points.
  3. Make your offer clear
→ “DM CLARITY” / “Request your free roadmap” Do not use vague offers. People need to know what you want them to do, quickly.
  4. Link your platforms together
→ Use the same messaging and keywords across LinkedIn, Instagram, and Google. The more identifiable your messaging, the more visible you are and the quicker you will be found on Google.
  5. Set up a follow-up system
→ Use a booking link, DM workflow, or audit request form. Make it easy for people to contact you.
